Logitech MeetUp USB Cable Too Short? We Tested a 50m Extension at 4K30

Your MeetUp is beside the display, but the computer needs to stay at the meeting table or in an equipment cabinet. If the USB cable cannot reach, an extension gives you more freedom to place the computer while keeping the camera and its device cable in place.

We tested that setup with the original Logitech MeetUp and our 50m CABLETIME USB-A Male-to-Female Active Optical Extension Cable, CT-AMFAG2-ZG50. With a separate USB 3.0 A-to-C cable between the extension and MeetUp, 4K30 video ran normally in our Windows Camera test.

You only need USB 3.0 if you want 4K. For 1080p, there is no need to replace MeetUp’s supplied USB 2.0 A-to-C cable just to upgrade the USB version. The CABLETIME extension also supports USB 2.0 connections; our photographed 4K test used the USB 3.0 setup.

Why choose the CABLETIME USB-A extension?

The CT-AMFAG2-ZG50 is a USB-A male-to-female active optical extension. It uses OM3 optical fiber and active electronics to extend the USB connection between the computer and your existing device cable.

  • Keep a device cable that suits your room. The female socket accepts its USB-A plug. You can retain a suitable USB 3.0 A-to-C cable for 4K, as we did, or consider the supplied USB 2.0 lead for a 1080p setup using the guidance below.
  • Give the computer more placement options. The 50m extension adds reach between the camera at the display and a computer on the table or in a cabinet.
  • Choose with a MeetUp result to reference. We checked 4K30 operation with this extension and a USB 3.0 device lead. That gives you a concrete combination to match when planning a longer 4K connection.

Choose this format when you want to extend a device cable. A long A-to-C cable, discussed below, replaces that cable instead.

Keep your MeetUp cable and extend it to the computer

Here is the connection we used:

Computer USB-A port → CABLETIME 50m A-male-to-A-female optical extension → USB 3.0 A-to-C cable → MeetUp USB-C port

Connect the extension’s USB-A male HOST end to the computer. At the camera end, plug the USB-A connector on the device cable into the extension’s USB-A female socket. The device cable’s USB-C end connects to MeetUp. Keep MeetUp connected to its own power supply, as shown in Logitech’s setup guide.

The extra connection: your USB device cable plugs into the CABLETIME extension.

The female socket lets you retain the device cable that suits your video needs: the supplied USB 2.0 lead for up to 1080p, or a USB 3.0 lead for 4K. The camera can stay beside the display, and the computer can stay where people need to use it. Measure the actual cable route around furniture and corners before choosing a length.

What we checked beyond device recognition

We checked the USB connection in USB Device Tree Viewer. MeetUp Camera appeared with Device Connection Speed: SuperSpeed, confirming that the camera connection was operating above USB 2.0 in this setup.

MeetUp’s camera and speakerphone entries were recognized. Device recognition alone does not demonstrate microphone or speaker performance.

In Windows Camera, we selected 2160p 16:9 30fps and checked the picture. The video ran normally with the 50m extension connected. For a room that needs a longer USB route, that gives you a tested combination to match: original MeetUp, a USB 3.0 A-to-C device cable, and this CABLETIME extension.

Windows Camera selected at 2160p 16:9 30fps during the 50m test

Our Windows Camera check at 2160p30. The separate 60Hz setting below it controls flicker reduction; it is not a 60fps result.

The extension supports USB 3.2 Gen 2 data transfer up to 10Gbps; MeetUp used SuperSpeed in our setup. Your meeting app may use a lower video resolution than Windows Camera, so check its supported modes when setting up the room.

Will it work with the cable supplied with MeetUp?

MeetUp’s supplied USB 2.0 A-to-C cable supports video up to 1080p. If that meets your needs, you do not have to buy a USB 3.0 device cable. The CABLETIME extension is backward compatible with USB 2.0, so retaining the supplied lead is an option for extending a 1080p connection.

For 4K, use a USB 3.0 A-to-C device cable and a USB 3.0 or higher computer port, following Logitech’s requirements. That is the combination we tested at 50m. We have not separately documented a 50m test with the supplied USB 2.0 lead, so check that complete setup before installation.

For a short route, a suitable conventional USB cable may already do the job. For the long connection tested here, the CABLETIME extension uses OM3 optical fiber and active electronics. Active copper cables and dedicated USB extenders are other options; check the USB mode and equipment required for the complete connection.

Your current setup What to choose
You have MeetUp’s supplied USB 2.0 cable and only need up to 1080p Keep the supplied device cable. The extension supports USB 2.0; check the complete extended connection with your computer and meeting app.
You have a USB 3.0 A-to-C cable and need more reach The A-male-to-A-female optical extension lets you retain that device cable. This is the arrangement we tested here.
You have MeetUp’s supplied USB 2.0 cable and want 4K Replace the device cable with a USB 3.0 A-to-C cable as part of the setup. The extension cannot upgrade the supplied cable.
You want one long cable directly from the computer to MeetUp An A-to-C active optical cable provides a different connection arrangement. It replaces the device cable.

Before installing the extension

Use the computer, device cable and meeting app intended for the room. A laptop with only USB-C ports needs an appropriate adapter or dock at the host end, which adds another component to check.

Before securing the cable, select MeetUp in the meeting app and check the camera, microphone and speaker. Run a representative call, try disconnecting and reconnecting the computer, and keep the extension’s female coupling accessible. For wall or ceiling routing, confirm the exact cable’s installation rating first.

About this test

We used a Windows desktop PC, Windows Camera and USB Device Tree Viewer v3.7.8 for the checks shown here. These are bench-test results for the photographed 50m setup. This is CABLETIME’s compatibility test, not Logitech certification.
